Mr Thomas McDonnell

Licensing Officer & Instructor

I was a late starter to Taekwon-Do, joining Heart of England in 2008 at the age of 38, initially alongside my eldest daughter. My goal was to encourage her to participate in a beneficial physical activity that would not only provide her with exercise but also teach her valuable self-defence skills.

Through hard work and great encouragement from the Heart of England Instructors, senior grades, and Master Bradshaw, I was promoted to 4th Degree Black Belt in October 2019. I have since continued my development, achieving 5th Degree and serving as a fully qualified relief instructor within the organisation.

Before starting Taekwon-Do, I trained as an amateur boxer from the age of 10 to 19, competing in numerous inter-club boxing bouts across the country as well as taking part in the National School Boys Boxing Championships. This background gave me a solid foundation in discipline, endurance, and respect — qualities I continue to apply and share through Taekwon-Do.

As Licensing Officer and Instructor, I remain committed to supporting the Heart of England group, helping to ensure high standards of practice, integrity, and safety across all schools.

Discipline and perseverance can begin at any age — it’s never too late to achieve your goals.
